The Cloud as an Enabler
As the industry designs data-driven automobiles that leverage AI/ML and intuitive interfaces, it enhances user experience and opens new channels for businesses to create value. Additionally, it also makes a case for – Connected Vehicles, Autonomous Driving, Shared Mobility, and Electrification – thereby driving innovation.
Here’s how.
- Connected vehicles: Projections place 45% of global new-car sales at Level 3 or above in connectivity by 2030. This implies there will be more centralised software, enhanced electrical, electronic components and increased quantum of data sent to the Cloud
- Autonomous driving scenarios: It’s estimated that autonomous vehicles will constitute > 40% of new vehicle sales in 2040. Many of these will have some processing capabilities in-vehicle and on-the-edge while simultaneously, some decision-making may also be deferred to the Cloud-side
- Shared mobility: The global shared autonomous-driving market potential will be approximately US$ 1,600 billion in 2030. This projection is based on factors that make shared or smart mobility imminent – app development, location and ecosystem-building work and related services are all driven by the Cloud
- Electric vehicles: EVs are different from traditional vehicles because they are Connected and here too, the Cloud is key. Despite prevalent concerns around range anxiety, battery management, the data-driven approach and powertrain, etc., it’s forecast that >300 new BEV models will be launched by 2025 and battery demand will rise at least 14-fold by 20303
Benefits for all Stakeholders
Given how such vehicles will proliferate, data collation in the Cloud can only better the understanding of all the stakeholders regarding their customers, key drivers for purchases, how best to personalize services, and the factors that will drive revenues and ensure better value to be derived from the vehicle. Such understanding will direct significant gains to all the stakeholders in the automotive industry.
OEMs: They can drive digital-first and digital-enabled services and improve their knowledge about the mobility ecosystem through the life of vehicles. In addition, OEMs can study and investigate patterns around vehicle usage and leverage data collection in the Cloud to get better insights into customers, vehicle pre-purchases, and the condition of vehicles throughout lifecycles.
Dealers: Incentivizing the Cloud will help control critical costs, eliminate confusion, and enable accurate, consistent tracking of incentives. By harnessing advanced AI/ML tools, they can understand patterns in past rebates and apply these effectively, as well as check overspending.
Suppliers: Cloud-based solutions help reduce development & validation costs through virtualization & simulation. They can allow suppliers to seamlessly exchange data to & from OEM. Going a step further, they can improve uptime, reduce in-warranty failures, and repair costs through monitoring of components.
Vehicle owners: Favourable experiences with smartphones and the digital world, along with the desire for enhanced benefits, customized services, secure vehicles, and optimal IVI experiences will drive Cloud adoption.
What KPIT brings to the Table

KPIT with over two decades’ experience as software integrator and considerable expertise on the vehicle-side has not only emerged as a focused automotive player but also proved its full-scale digital capabilities with robust innovations in AUTOSAR, Powertrain4 , Diagnostics, Conventional and Electric Vehicles. It has not only built and delivered Cloud-based connected vehicle solutions5 for the AD/ADAS scenarios6 but also developed validation through virtualization7 and connected vehicle scenarios.
Strong Partner Networks
The process of cultivating talent and enhancing skillsets in-house has been supplemented by overarching partnerships with Amazon, Microsoft, Google to leverage Cloud technologies, AI, ML, and Analytics. As a member of the Microsoft Partnership Network, three of KPITs Cloud solutions– Over-the-Air Updates, Predictive Maintenance RUL, and the Asset Management Platform have been certified by Microsoft as “Co-sell ready” and published on the Azure Marketplace.
End-to-end Provision for Cybersecurity
One of the key focus areas for KPIT is security from Vehicle-to-Cloud. Be it delivering secure software updates over-the-air or maintaining compliance with regulatory norms; be it protecting user data or ensuring safety from the AD perspective; KPIT adheres to established standards and protocols to ensure all solutions stay compliant with required security standards.
KPIT’s Ready Cloud Solutions
Over The Air Updates
KPIT’s next-generation OTA solution for the full vehicle, On-board and Cloud, is secure and efficient. Its in- vehicle software components including the Bootloader and smaller ECUs based on Classic AUTOSAR or POSIX operator have proven competence. With its DPDU Library in series production with European OEMs, other OTA components in series production with various passenger car OEMs, and Cloud catering to Asian commercial vehicles markets, KPIT is set to transform the mobility ecosystem.
Remaining Useful Life (RUL)
Remaining Useful Life (RUL) is an important factor that indicates the remaining vitality of any component. KPIT’s model for predicting component RUL utilizes a custom Deep Learning Architecture and can be employed on embedded as well as Cloud platforms. KPIT’s solution has ready application for RUL prediction of EV Battery, Battery Usage, Engine Oil, Spark Plug, Brake Pads, and Fluid, etc.
For instance, KPIT’s Cloud-based AI/ML-driven program analyses the data collected from the BMS for temperature, usage patterns, charge status to help predict battery failures and prognosticate RUL.
Integrated Asset Management
KPIT’s Integrated Asset Management Platform is a baseline set of capabilities that enable a connected vehicle solution or a fleet management solution. It includes features related to Tracking, Journey Risk Management, Driver Behavior, Vehicle Health Monitoring, DTC Management, EV Charging Management, and Fuel Efficiency. The Platform currently has 6+ OEM deployments over Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, and handles 55+ TB contents of data per month.
Cloud Services across Application Lifecycle
Going beyond ready solutions, KPIT also has considerable experience managing and operating Cloud solutions. It provides several services across the entire application lifecycle from the day-to-day management of the Cloud to the customer interface and everything that comes in between.
KPIT’s expertise is well-known when it comes to the development and design phase, whether it is the Migration of solutions to Cloud or Building new solutions. Being a software integration partner, it also works on Integration of multiple systems or enterprise solutions, as well as with third-party solutions or APIs. It provides full-cycle Validation, including everything from validation of IVI going on to the app. With our experience, we understand the Optimization required to ensure that as the business and volume of vehicles on the Cloud grows, the costs stay within control, and the reliability of performance remains unaffected.
